Mission Statement

Ponce Inlet provides high quality fire and rescue services with a combination staff of career and volunteer professionals. Headed by Fire Chief Daniel Scales, service is provided to more than 2,500 residents, covering an area of just over 7.5 square miles.

Fire suppression and Advanced Life Support (ALS) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are delivered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by a team of 9 career firefighters and is supplemented by volunteer personnel. Career firefighters work a 24-on, 48-off schedule, and each duty shift is comprised of at least one paramedic and two firefighter/EMT's.

Continuing training is provided utilizing traditional and alternative delivery methods. The department is a subscriber of EMI-Net, Fire and Emergency Technology Network (FETN) and Working Fire. These programs allow our personnel to receive high quality continuing education without having to leave the fire station. Physical fitness is an important component of our training program and our firefighters stay in shape by running the steps of the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse or by pumping iron and swimming laps at one of the community's condominiums.
Ponce Inlet operates one quick attack mini-pumper, one transport capable rescue truck and two Type I fire engines to help us maintain a Class 5 Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating. With over 8 ½ miles of beach and riverfront property to protect, our rescue and attack unit are both 4wd capable. Our rescue and front run engine are both equipped with a full set of ALS equipment to respond to the emergency medical needs of the community,

In an effort to safeguard the lives of our residents and visitors, the Town has adopted the most stringent and progressive fire and life safety codes available. Fire inspections are completed on an annual basis and the Fire Prevention Division reviews all plans for new construction.

As of April 1, 2003, fire and rescue dispatching services is being provided by the Regional Communications Center (RCC). RCC began operations on October 1, 2002, dispatching for the Cities of Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater. Under the consolidated communications center, fire and rescue services are provided seamlessly across all jurisdictional boundaries. This allows Ponce Inlet to continue to provide the personal touch of a small community fire department, with the available resources of a larger metropolitan fire company.
